STORY
The batik technique is a form of textile design that is indigenous to the Zimbabwean people that has been passed down from generation to generation.
All Motsi batik textiles have a cracked effect look and texture that is inspired by the cracked earth you see across the beautiful African continent in the dry seasons. The cracked effect and texture is brought to life in our textiles by our artisans through a process that commences with a thin layer of corn porridge (Sadza) being applied to cotton fabric that is woven by our artisans.
The porridge is used to create the hand drawn designs/prints and is left to dry under the African sun. Once dry, excess porridge paste is scrapped off and the painting and curing process is undertaken which results in the beautiful colour palettes in our Motsi collection. Finally sewing and stitching is completed and your beautiful Motsi cushion is created!
Due to the handmade nature of this traditional art form, each cushion will vary slightly in pattern and colour.
Throw onto your favourite couch, chair or bed.
