Binga Baskets

  • STORY

Indigenous to the Batonga people of the Binga district of Zimbabwe, Binga baskets are made using old-age and traditional weaving techniques passed down from generation to generation. These detailed patterned baskets are made from dried palm leaves (natural colour) and dyed tree bark (brown colour). Traditionally Binga baskets are made for functional purposes such as winnowing grains but are now well known for their use in interior design as wall décor pieces.

These baskets are handwoven and are not mass-produced, taking approximately 2-5 days to make, depending on the size and complexity of the design. They are rustic in appearance and have few imperfections. Stunning on their own, they are beautiful textural art pieces when hung in groups.

    Please note:

Photos on this page are samples of some of our baskets. Due to the handcrafted nature of our products, each basket has a unique design and the shape will vary with each basket.
